Local Rules for Valencia Women’s Golf Club

Play from the Red Tee Markers

Drainage Ditches which cross holes 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 16 and 18 are played as a red penalty area. A ball in the penalty area may be played as it lies without penalty, or the player may take relief with one penalty stroke as described in Rule 17.1d. Free relief is not available for immovable obstructions inside the penalty area such as the bridges or drainage pipes.

Hole #4: The drainage ditch along the left side of the hole (approximately 30 yards short of the green) is played as a red penalty area. A ball in the penalty area may be played as it lies without penalty, or the player may take relief with one penalty stroke as described in Rule 17.1d. Free relief is not available for immovable obstructions inside the penalty area such as the concrete structure.

Hole #9:  On the right side of the hole, approximately 130 yards off the red teeing area, is a small drainage ditch and cart bridge. This area is designated as a penalty area connected to the lake on 7 and shall be played according to Rule 17.

Hole #15: Behind the putting green, the drainage ditch, which includes the concrete, is played as a “No Play Zone”. A ball must not be played and should not be retrieved from within the penalty area. Relief must be taken with one penalty stroke as described in Rule 17.1e.

Hole #17: The lake surrounding the island green is a red penalty area (both fairway and putting green sides). The player may take relief with one penalty stroke as described in Rule 17.1d at the reference point where the ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area. If a ball lands in the bank (ground between the water and grass), it is in the penalty area.

EXTREMELY MUDDY AREAS:
If the player’s ball, intended stance or area of intended swing has interference from an extremely muddy area, free relief is available as described in Rule 16.1. However, if the conditions noted before don’t exist, and the ball simply has mud on it, you must play the ball as it lies.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
If a ball might be lost outside of a penalty area or be out of bounds, to save time and maintain pace of play, please play another ball provisionally as noted in Rule 18.3.

Rule 20.1c covers what players should do when they have questions about the Rules during the round. If there is doubt or disagreement during tournament play or competition play days. In stroke play the player may play a second ball until the hole is completed and must report the facts to the rules committee before returning the scorecard, even if the player scores the same with both balls.
