Tournament Rules
TOURNAMENTS: STANDING RULES
1. Weekly tournaments shall be held on Tuesday, designated as VWGC Play Day. Club Away Play will be organized and played on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Major tournaments shall be conducted and supervised by the Tournament Director and her committee.
2. Members may participate and enter in games designated by the Weekly Tournament Director on Club Play Days. Gross, Net and Closest-to-The-Pin
prizes will be awarded. (Revised 2021).
3. Tournament and luncheon fees will not be refunded after the posted deadline dates. (Revised: 2016).
4. The following trophies and pins shall be awarded at the Annual Holiday Luncheon in December.
Most Improved Golfer, Club Champion
(Gross and Net), Super Senior Award
(Gross), President’s Cup (Net) and
Beat-The-Pro (Net).
5. Break 100, 90, & 80 pins which will be awarded to members doing so for the first time on Club Play Days or during a major tournament.
6. Break 100 pins (if handicap is 36 and up), 90 pins (if handicap is 25 and up), 80 and 70 pins shall be awarded to any member at Vista doing so for the first time on Club Play Days or during a Major Tournament.
7. Hole-In-One Award As of 2017, every VWGC member is eligible for the the Hole-In-One AwardThe Hole-In-One must be made while playing on Club Play Days or during Vista Tournaments. The Treasurer will issue a prize award valued at $100.00 to the member(s) making the Hole-In-One paid from the General Fund. In addition, a Hole-In-One pin will be presented at the Annual Holiday Luncheon. VWGC will not issue a check to defray libation expenses nor will the Hole-In One winner be expected to do so. TOURNAMENTS
ELIGIBILITY/QUALIFICATIONS
Club Championship (Gross & Net)
Super Senior Award (Gross)
The Club Championship will be played at Vista on two consecutive weeks. Members must have played a minimum of twelve (12) games in the preceding twelve (12) months, on Vista play days and/or participated in Team Play to be eligible. Ties will be determined by a sudden death playoff. (Revised 2010)
The Gross Champion will be awarded a Perpetual Trophy and the Treasurer shall issue a prize valued at $100.00 paid from the general fund.
A Net Champion Perpetual Trophy (Enacted in 2015), will be awarded and (Enacted in 2023), the Treasurer shall issue a prize valued at $50.00 paid from the general fund.
Super Senior Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to an eligible Member who must be 80 Years + to qualify and compete for this trophy. (Enacted 2015)
The President’s Cup (Net) will be played at Vista Valencia Golf Course. Members must have entered a minimum of six (6) weekly tournaments in the preceding twelve (12) months. Ties will be determined by a sudden death playoff
“Mo” Kane Memorial Tournament (Net)
Members must have entered six (6) weekly tournaments in the preceding twelve(12) months to be eligible for the trophy. Members with a valid index on the current handicap sheet may play in the tournament.
Beat-the-Pro (Net)
Eligibility is the same as the “MO” Kane Tournament.
Most Improved Golfer
A minimum of (20) games (posted on Vista Play Days) is required per year, and may include participation in Club Team Play. Members must also be an active Member of the Club for twelve (12) months before qualifying for the award. (Revised 2023) The player must have improved from a starting index not higher than a prior winning index.
CODE OF CONDUCT AND DRESS
Members shall conduct themselves in a manner that conforms to good golf etiquette and reflects pride
in the Club. Sensible and appropriate attire as recognized by golf courses and associations.
Collared shirts, pants, shorts, skirts and skorts recommended. (Revised 2021)
VWGC MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES
Full Membership
Includes participation in all golf activities. Regular Tuesday Play Days, Away Play, Special Monthly Tournaments. Optional membership in WPLGA and LACWGA, Team Play and Monthly Play Days. Participation in all Club Social Functions. Credit toward Annual Holiday Luncheon. Access to Club information via Newsletter, Website and Green Book Directory. USGA Handicap Index issued by USGA and managed by SCGA.
Associate Membership
Participation in up to 8 Tuesday Play Days a year. Participation in all Club Social Functions. Access to club information via Newsletter and Website. May become a Full Member at any time by paying the difference. USGA Handicap Index issued by USGA and managed by SCGA.
(Effective 2024)
Social Membership
Participation in Club Social Functions. Credit toward Annual Holiday Luncheon. Participation in non-handicap Golf Tournaments. Access to Club information via Newsletter, Website and Green Book Directory. No USGA Handicap Index.
POSTING OF SCORES:
The maximum score a player may post will be “net double bogie” (par plus 2 strokes) and any handicap strokes a golfer receives on a given hole. Also, the golfer is required to post their scores the same day they play. For full details refer to www.whs.com or the Club Handicap Chair.
